This will be a 2D platformer with battles between the anglerfish protagonist and monsters comprised of accumulated trash that have somehow taken on a life of their own. There will also be puzzle and maze elements at the protagonist must navigate caves and sunken ships. The fish will be able to attack using its bite and lure.
The design will be pixel or voxel based, likely in Godot engine. It will have a generally dark, horrific style. It will be level-based rather than open-world, perhaps split into the different depth zones, like the Epipelagic Zone (surface to 200 meters), Bathypelagic Zone (1,000-4,000 meters), etc.
Even though the story will be a very dark theme along with its dark design, it is also intended to be highly satirical, commenting on the problem of pollution and large corporations.
